Prepare for a Visit

Preparing for the in-home exam:

  1. Fill out our required pre-visit questionnaire and submit at least 48 hours ahead of visit.

Filling out this important paperwork allows us to get to know your kitty and help us be efficient and effective during the visit!

  2. Submit previous medical records from every clinic your kitty has received care.

Include vaccination records and lab results. Please email records to info@tranquiltabby.com at least 48 hours before visit.

  3. Prepare a secure and safe space for the exam!

Choose a place within the home for your cat to be examined. Ensure that this space has limited hiding spaces and will allow for us to easily access your cat for their exam. Place kitty in the room 1-2 hours before the exam to help them acclimate to their surroundings. Please remove litter boxes from the room to help us collect a urine sample if needed.

  4. Catch them in action!

Obtain videos of behaviors and symptoms and photos of any visible concerns for us to review before and during appointments! This will help us better prepare to help your cat during the visit.

Preparing for the Fear Free experience:

  1. Please give pre-visit calming supplements and medications as prescribed.

  2. Apply calming pheromones or scents like lavender. Feliway is our recommended calming pheromone. Apply 10 to 15 minutes before bringing your cat into the exam area.

  3. When possible, provide a comforting and familiar resting space for use during exams. This can include a familiar cat bed or blanket. We want to perform exams where each cat feels most comfortable!

  4. Hungry is good! When medically appropriate, reduce the amount of food your cat eats before the visit. This can make the treats at the veterinary visit more appealing.

  5. We will bring treats to the visit, but please provide any special treats that your cat particularly loves!

  6. Provide familiar items that your cat likes, like favorite toys or a brush, to help them relax. Our team may ask you to use these items to distract kitty during the visit.

  7. Avoid feeling rushed. If you are stressed, your kitty will sense this and may become stressed.

  8. Speak calmly and gently, and be mindful of noises in the environment. If you are calm, happy, and relaxed, your pet will be, too.
